FAQ.

Here you will find some of our FAQ to help with your cabin project.

How long will it take to build the cabin?

One of the advantages of our exclusive in-house cabin kits is their quick construction. Depending on the cabin and specifications, we generally aim to have it ready within two weeks from our start date. Despite their speedy assembly, our cabins are built to last, and we provide a ten-year warranty for all of them.

What is the process of ordering a cabin?

To begin, get in touch with us for a chat, send us an email, or request a full information pack. If you're interested in Backyard Cabins, we'll arrange a meeting with you, discuss options that suit your outdoor space, and provide you with a quote. Once you're satisfied, we'll advise you on a schedule of work, guide you on installing the cabin's concrete slab foundation, and request a 60% deposit. Your cabin will be constructed by our experienced team, and upon completion, we'll ask for the remaining 40% payment. We can also offer advice on finishing touches for your cabin.

Why are your cabins sustainable?

We prioritize environmental care and want you to enjoy a more outdoor lifestyle in your new cabin. Our cabin kits are handcrafted in the UK using products sourced from sustainable suppliers. Moreover, our cabin specifications make them highly energy efficient. As a bonus, for every cabin we erect, the National Trust plants ten trees.

Are your cabins suitable for use as a home office or studio?

Yes, our cabins are incredibly versatile and can be used as garden offices, studios, workshops, treatment rooms, and more. They are designed to provide a comfortable and functional space for various purposes.

What is the warranty for your cabins?

All our cabins come with a 10-year warranty, providing peace of mind and assurance of their quality and durability.

What is the lifespan of the EPDM roofing membrane, and is it replaceable?

The EPDM roofing membrane is designed to last for many years, matching the lifespan of your cabin. It is highly durable and resistant to wear and tear. In the event that replacement is needed, our team can assess the condition and provide a solution tailored to your specific situation.

Can I choose a specific colour or finish for my cabin's exterior?

Yes, we offer three options for cladding finishes: natural, matte black, or patina wood protection. You can select the one that best suits your desired look for the cabin.

It's important to note that the natural colour option comes as standard, while opting for matte black or patina wood protection would entail an additional cost.

Do I need to get planning permission?

In most cases, no. Our cabins, regardless of size, typically don't require specific planning permission as they don't exceed the 2.5-meter height restriction. However, depending on your location in the UK, local or national authorities may impose restrictions on the size and type of building you can construct. We recommend researching your rights and responsibilities to ensure a smooth cabin installation.

Are your cabins warm enough for winter use?

Thanks to highly efficient insulation, SIP panels are used on all cabin walls, floors, and roofs, providing excellent thermal values. However, we offer additional options to keep you warm and cosy during winter, such as electric smart heaters and integral blinds.

Can I customise the cabin's design to suit my specific needs?

Absolutely! We offer both our exclusive in-house designs and the option for bespoke builds. Our experienced designers can work with you to create a cabin that perfectly matches your requirements and preferences.

Do your cabins come with electrical wiring and lighting?

Yes, each cabin is equipped with electrical provisions, including four double plug sockets with concealed cabling and a consumer unit ready for your electrician to connect. Our cabins also feature matte black-trimmed LED downlights on the inside and porch areas, operated by a two-way light switch.

Can I move or relocate my cabin if needed?

While we recommend leaving your cabin in its original location, it is possible to relocate it with the assistance of specialists and a crane if necessary. However, we advise careful consideration before making such a decision.

What are the delivery and installation costs, and are they included in the cabin price?

The costs for delivery and installation are already factored into the cabin price, ensuring transparency and clarity in your purchase. You won't encounter any unexpected expenses related to delivery or installation, as these essential services are included as part of the package.

What kind of foundation is recommended for the cabin?

We recommend laying a concrete slab foundation, allowing us to install our adjustable pads. If you prefer an environmentally friendly option, we also offer a ground screw foundation as part of our cabin extras.

Do you provide additional extras or upgrades for your cabins?

Yes, we offer a range of extras, including integral built-in blinds for bi-fold doors, electric app-controlled heaters, LVT flooring with shallow skirting, front decking, custom colour bi-fold doorways, ground screw installation, and additional side windows. These options allow you to personalize your cabin further.

Are there any ongoing maintenance requirements for the cabin's interior or exterior?

Maintaining your cabin is straightforward and typically involves treating the cladding. Due to exposure to the elements, we recommend applying a wood protector treatment every five years. This simple maintenance task helps preserve the exterior's appearance and protects it from weather-related effects. If you need product recommendations for wood treatment, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Am I able to incorporate a "green roof" into my cabin build?

Yes, it's possible to create a "green roof" for your cabin with some modifications to the roof structure and the addition of a thicker layer of EPDM. Please note that this option will incur an additional cost, which may vary depending on the size of the cabin. On average, you can expect to pay around £500 for this modification.

Do I need to maintain the cladding?

Our Euro Larch or Thermowood cladding is designed for longevity, boasting natural resistance to decay and a proven life expectancy of over 50 years. These cladding options feature rich golden-brown tones that enhance the exterior's aesthetic appeal. Over time, they will naturally weather to a beautiful silvery-grey colour.

We offer three cladding options to suit your preferences: natural, matte black, or patina wood protection. It's important to note that the natural colour option comes as standard, while opting for matte black or patina wood protection would entail an additional cost.
